Jared Kushner
The son-in-law and adviser to former US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, together with his deputy Avi Berkowitz, were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Reported by Reuters.
The reason for the nomination was their role in the conclusion of the so-called “agreements of Abraham” between Israel and the Arab countries.
The former president's son-in-law was nominated for the prestigious award by lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who defended Trump at the first impeachment hearing. Dershowitz is nominated for the award as a professor at Harvard University. The publication reports that in his letter to the Nobel Committee, Dershowitz admitted that his nomination could be controversial.
On September 15, Israel, the UAE and Bahrain signed a peace agreement at the White House. According to the agreements signed, Abu Dhabi and Manama recognize the State of Israel, and the country's authorities, in turn, suspend the spread of sovereignty to Jewish settlements on the West Bank of the Jordan River. In a joint statement, the countries announced that the move would enable further progress towards peace throughout the Middle East.
On October 23, Israel agreed to normalize relations with Sudan. On December 10, a similar agreement was reached with Morocco. In both cases, the United States also acted as intermediaries.
