Trump's impeachment resolution passed to Senate

by alex

Representatives of the lower house of the US Congress submitted a resolution to the Senate to impeach former President Donald Trump. Reported by CNN.

Congressmen proceeded from the House of Representatives to the other wing of the Capitol, where the Senate sits. Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin read out the full text of the resolution. Thus, the process of impeachment of Trump was formally launched in the upper house of the US Congress. By agreement of the parties, impeachment hearings in the Senate will begin on February 8.

Earlier, the Associated Press reported that more and more Republicans are opposed to the Senate impeachment process for Trump. To pass a resolution of impeachment, the votes of two-thirds of the members of the upper house of Congress are required, that is, 67 senators out of 100. For this, 17 senators of the same party must vote against Trump. However, according to the agency, there are significantly fewer supporters of impeachment among Republican senators at the moment.

On January 14, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in the wake of the recent riots in Washington. The last vote was the second attempt to remove the politician from office. He became the first US president to be impeached for the second time, especially after resigning.

Democrats motivate the decision to impeach Trump, including by the fact that after the end of the process, he will not be able to run for president. This is the first time the US has attempted to remove a state leader from office after the end of his presidential term.
