Supporters of the former US President drew attention to the fact that Steve Scalise is being treated for cancer.
Republicans, who are vocal supporters of former US President Donald Trump, consider the choice of Steve Scalise as a contender for the new Speaker of the House of Representatives to be incorrect. Trumpists cynically motivated their position by the fact that Scalise is being treated for multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

“I like Steve Scalise, and I like him so much that that I want to see him defeat cancer and not sacrifice his health in the most difficult position in Congress,” said Majorie Taylor Greene, who supported his rival and Donald Trump’s favorite Jim Jordan, who is an outspoken skeptic of military aid to Ukraine.
As previously reported, during the GOP secret ballot, Steve Scalise received 113 votes and Jim Jordan received 99.
Recall that the speaker of the lower house of the US Congress, Kevin McCarthy, has been removed from office. 216 people voted for his resignation, and 210 voted against it. This was the first time in the history of the United States that members of the House of Representatives voted for the resignation of the speaker.
