US President Donald Trump was suspected of an authoritarian craving. The journalist Tomasz Zalewski writes about this in the Polish edition of Polityka. In his opinion, the actions of the American leader testify to his readiness to embark on this path.
“The House of American Democracy was hit by the earthquake and cracked. We must hope that the Americans will not allow it to collapse, ”the journalist writes. In the article, he criticizes Trump's unwillingness to recognize the results of the US presidential election, according to which Democrat Joe Biden wins, stressing that the head of the White House is “cynically playing” with the security of his own country.
Zalessky also criticizes Trump supporters, who, in his opinion, “assent to the president” and do not accept the election results, insisting on fraud: “It is high time for Trump and those who put his slippers on will be crowned with success for them. “
The journalist notes that many believe that Trump will still be able to turn the situation in his favor. “If he [Trump] succeeded in this, it would mean that America will follow the path of Russia, Turkey or Hungary,” writes Zalessky.
However, the author expresses the hope that in the end “everything will definitely end well”, since “the natural instinct of self-preservation will win” and Biden will take the oath on January 20, 2021, becoming the 46th President of the United States.
In his article, Zalessky also commented on rumors that if he loses, Trump will run for president in 2024: “As a Russian classic once said,” it's both funny and scary, “but rather, in this case, it's just scary.”
