Trump urged to hold urgent briefing on aid to Ukraine

by alex

The American president is being called upon by his fellow party members to resume arms supplies.

Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick sent a letter to US President Donald Trump demanding an emergency briefing for Congress on the suspension of military aid to Ukraine and called for the resumption of deliveries.

This was reported by former Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh on his Facebook page

“Ukrainian soldiers are not only defending their homeland, they are holding the line of defense for the entire democratic world. There can be no half measures in the defense of freedom. Ukraine's courage must be backed by action – the United States must, as always, defend peace through strength,” the letter says.

A Ukrainian journalist has published the entire open letter from the Republican congressman to the American president.

Ostap Yarysh noted that another Republican congressman, Michael McCaul, joined Brian Fritzpatrick's call.

“I led the effort to pass additional aid legislation to Ukraine so that it finally has the weapons to fight off a brutal and unprovoked Russian attack. … Now is the time to show Putin that we mean business. That starts with providing Ukraine with congressionally approved weapons to force Putin to negotiate,” he said.

Democrats also made statements, including Senate Foreign Relations Committee Co-Chairman Gene Shagin.

“President Trump just last week promised to find additional air defense systems for Ukraine, but Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth and his deputy Colby appear to be ignoring the president. … This reckless decision allows Putin to further play the fool and buy time on the battlefield,” she said.

President Donald Trump has not yet commented on this decision to suspend military aid; as of today, as Ostap Yarysh noted, the owner of the White House has no public events planned.

Recall that the Trump administration's decision to stop the transfer of certain missiles and ammunition to Ukraine has drawn criticism from Republicans
