The United States will withdraw from the organization due to the fact that its work does not correspond to the president's policy of “America First”.
The President of the United States Donald Trump will soon sign an executive order on the withdrawal countries from the UN Human Rights Council and a ban on further funding for the UN aid agency in the Gaza Strip.
This is reported by Politico.
Journalists report that this indicates a resumption of Trump's policies from his first presidency. Washington has repeatedly accused the UN Council of bias against Israel and of covering for a few countries that violate human rights.
In addition, the Trump administration has expressed doubts about the future of the US Agency for International Development, which also promotes human rights abroad, due to the fact that its work does not correspond to the president's “America First” policy and how its funds are spent.
At the same time, the White House said that the Council “has failed to fulfill its purpose and continues to be used as a protective body for countries that commit horrific human rights violations” and condemned its position on Israel.
“The UNHRC has demonstrated a consistent bias against Israel, giving it unfair and disproportionate attention in the Council's work. In In 2018, when President Trump resigned from the UNHRC during his first administration, the organization had passed more resolutions condemning Israel than Syria and North Korea combined,” the report said.
Earlier it was reported that Trump wants to get rare earth metals from Ukraine.
We previously reported that Europe is concerned about Trump's threats about tariffs and territorial claims.
