Trump threatens Kazakhstan with 25% tariffs and names conditions for their non-application

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on all goods from Kazakhstan unless the country produces products directly in the United States.

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to introduce a 25% customs duty on all goods from Kazakhstan without exception if the country does not transfer part of its production to the United States.

Trump published the corresponding letter, addressed to the President of Kazakhstan Kassim-Zhomart Tokayev, on his social network Truth Social.

“Starting August 1, 2025, we will introduce a 25% duty on all goods imported into the United States from Kazakhstan without exception,” the letter says.

The document emphasizes that the specified level of tariffs is “far less than” what, according to Trump, is needed to “eliminate the imbalance of the trade deficit” between the two countries.

In addition, the letter states that the relationship between the United States and Kazakhstan is “far from reciprocal.” In particular, it notes that the United States is no longer prepared to tolerate persistent trade deficits caused by Astana’s policies and the existence of trade barriers.

“If Kazakhstan builds factories or produces products directly in the United States, duties will not be imposed,” Trump assured.

He also added that the White House is ready to quickly, professionally and in the usual manner approve relevant projects on the territory of the United States.

It is noteworthy that similar letters were also sent to the governments of Malaysia, Laos, South Africa and Myanmar.

Earlier it was reported that Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs against key allies – Japan and South Korea.

We previously reported that US President Donald Trump announced that duties on steel imports would be increased from the current 25% to 50%.
