Trump Reveals What Biden Wrote Him in Farewell Letter

By tradition, the US president, leaving the White House, leaves a farewell letter to his successor.

New US President Donald Trump shared with journalists the text of a farewell letter from his predecessor Joe Biden, which he, by tradition, left in the Oval Office office.

Fox News writes about this.

The letter is addressed to “Dear President Trump”.

“As I leave this sacred office, I wish you and your family the best for the next four years. The American people โ€” and people around the world โ€” look to this home for strength through the inevitable storms of history. I pray that the years ahead will be a time of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation. May the Lord bless you and lead you as He has blessed and led our beloved country since its founding,” Biden wrote.

Note that Joe Biden, at the beginning of his 2021 term, did not reveal the text of a similar letter from Trump when he left office after his first term.

Yesterday, Fox News reported that Trump apparently forgot about the letter from Biden. Immediately after the inauguration, Trump was asked in the Oval Office if Biden had left him a letter.

“Maybe he did. Don't they leave them in their desks? I don't know,” Trump replied, and soon found a white envelope with “47” written on it in his desk drawer.

The new head of the White House then thanked the reporter: “Thank you, Peter. It could have been years before we found that thing.”

The tradition of presidents leaving a letter for their successor began in 1989, when President Ronald Reagan left the White House after two terms in office and former President George H.W. Bush took over. The tradition has continued to this day through Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Trump, and Biden.

Biden, however, was the first president to find himself in the unique position of writing a letter to the man who is both his successor and the predecessor who left him a note four years earlier. Trump was the first president to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in the late 1800s. Presidents who serve two consecutive terms only have one “number.” Trump, however, is both the 45th and 47th president of the United States.

President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously announced when he would meet with Trump.
