The US President called for calming the situation around Iran as quickly as possible.

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump said he does not support regime change in Iran because it would lead to instability in the country.

He told reporters this on board Air Force One during the flight to the NATO summit, Reuters correspondent Nandita Bose reports on social media.

“No. If it were, it would be, but no, I don't want that. I would like things to calm down as quickly as possible. Regime change requires chaos, and ideally we don't want to see that much chaos. We'll see what happens next,” the US president said.

Trump also stressed that Iran will not have nuclear weapons.

“They will not have nuclear weapons – that's the last thing on their minds right now,” he added.

According to the president, Russian leader Vladimir Putin contacted him and offered help in resolving the situation with Tehran.

Trump earlier said Israel and Iran had violated the ceasefire he had declared hours earlier, expressing dissatisfaction with both sides, but especially Israel.

On his own social network Truth Social, Trump called on Israel to refrain from striking Iran.

Trump has previously allowed for the possibility of regime change, but he has now made it clear that he does not want such a scenario because it would lead to chaos.

“If the current Iranian regime is not capable of making Iran great again, why not have a regime change?” he said on Sunday.

However, his position has now changed dramatically – he is calling for de-escalation and peace.

Recall that on the night of June 22, Donald Trump announced airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran – Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. According to him, the goal of the strikes is to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment capacity and stop the nuclear threat.
