The US Republican Party, of which incumbent President Donald Trump is one of its representatives, was able to secure a key Senate seat in Iowa. This is evidenced by data from Fox News.
As noted, the current state representative in the Senate, Republican Joni Ernst, was re-elected for a new six-year term, bypassing the Democratic candidate Teresa Greenfield. According to the results provided by Fox News, Ernst won 51.78 percent of the vote against Greenfield's 45.18 percent.
Earlier it was reported that the 78-year-old leader of the Republican Party in the Senate Mitch McConnell from Kentucky was able to re-elect to the upper house of the US parliament.
In the current Senate, Republicans hold 53 seats against 47 for Democrats. Thus, the Senate seat in Iowa may prove to be decisive in the issue of keeping the majority in the upper house by the Republicans.
