The American president noted that Saturday's strike is a clear message to anyone who wants to attack the United States.
On Saturday, February 1, the US armed forces carried out airstrikes in Somalia, targeting a high-ranking organizer of the Islamic State attacks and other members of the militant group groups.
US President Donald Trump, who gave the order for the attack, wrote about this on his Truth Social network.
Trump said that as a result of high-precision strikes, many terrorists were killed and no civilians were hurt.
In the message, he also criticized his predecessor in the White House, Joe Biden, who, according to him, was unable to eliminate these terrorists.
“The attacks destroyed the caves where [the terrorists] lived without harming any civilians. Our military has been targeting the planner of the attacks for years, but Biden and his team did not act quickly enough to get the job done. I do!” Trump wrote.
The American president noted that Saturday’s strike was a clear message to anyone who wants to attack the United States. “We will find you and kill you!” Trump said.
According to Reuters, US Defense Secretary Pete Gegset said Saturday’s strikes took place in the Golis Mountains and that initial assessments were that many militants had been killed. He said there were no civilian casualties.
Gegset said the strikes had impaired the Islamic State's ability to plan and carry out terrorist attacks that threaten the United States, its partners, and innocent civilians.
Somalia's presidential office said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had been briefed on the airstrike, which he said took place in northern Somalia.
“Mohamud acknowledges the United States' steadfast support in the fight against international terrorism,” his office said in a statement on the X platform.
A spokesman for the Somali presidential office, speaking on condition of anonymity, said his government welcomed the step.
“Somalia cannot be a safe haven for terrorists,” the official said, adding that the impact of the strike was still being assessed.
Recall that in the US, a PSA Airlines plane collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while landing at Washington airport and fell into a river.
