The newly elected US president is not going to deprive Ukraine of weapons supplies, since he has a certain personal interest in this.
Some European countries and even Kiev believe that Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election could be a better option for Ukraine than the arrival of Democrat Kamala to the White House Harris.
This was reported on Friday, November 15, by Politico, citing an anonymous Republican foreign policy expert familiar with President Zelensky and his entourage.
According to him, at best, Harris followed Joe Biden's approach. “This would mean a slow death for Ukraine. Or not so slow – the pace of Russian achievements is accelerating,” he noted.
The interlocutor also emphasized that if Harris wins, provided that the Republicans control one or both houses of Congress, it would be difficult for her to receive additional aid to Ukraine.
“Now Trump can snap his fingers and the Republicans in the House will vote for more security assistance for Ukraine,” he added.
In addition, although Trump has stated that he wants the war to end, he is not going to deprive Ukraine of weapons supplies at this stage, since he has a certain personal interest in this.
According to the publication's interlocutor, Trump is proud of the fact that he is a skilled deal maker and does not want to allow failure. In addition, during phone calls with Zelensky and their recent meeting in New York, he instilled confidence in the Ukrainian leader that he would not leave Ukraine just like that.
“The Ukrainians need to make sure that Trump does not see them as an obstacle to peace, and they should not be the first to say 'no', even when some stupid ideas are thrown at them. They need the Russians to continue to say 'no' to him [Trump], then the Ukrainians will seem like a reasonable party. Then Trump will conclude that the only way to involve the Russians in negotiations is to help the Ukrainians,” the Politico source said.
The publication notes that Trump does not yet have a detailed peace plan, and the opinions of his advisers differ. Despite some media reports, Trump has not yet appointed a team to handle the peace initiative.
But Ukraine is being told it will have to make major territorial concessions and that the reward for this will be that 80 percent of the country will remain free and independent, said another Republican familiar with the conversations among Trump's associates.
Recall that US President-elect Donald Trump plans to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table and thus end the war.
