According to Portnikov, Trump’s dismantling of the unipolar world will lead to chaos and new major wars.
Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Portnikov believes that US President Donald Trump has effectively abandoned the role of the world's chief arbiter. However, this does not mean that another state other than the United States can take the place of such an arbiter.

In his opinion, Putin’s Russia – even with arsenals of nuclear weapons, but with the degradation of the economy in society – can only claim the role of “the world’s main hooligan.”
“The last decades have demonstrated that Russia achieves its goals exclusively through blackmail and force – and even that is not very successful,” the expert says.
As for China, Beijing would certainly like to take the place of the US. However, Portnikov reminds that China's ambitions have many opponents – and not only the US, but also India.
“India obviously would not like a world dominated by China. Or even a region dominated by China. And it will actively oppose Chinese efforts. Does Xi Jinping understand this? Of course. His absence from the BRICS summit in Brazil is a reminder that the head of the PRC does not accept a format where there are competitors, and he cannot build a serious format without competition,” the journalist writes.
In his opinion, the dismantling of the unipolar world by the Americans themselves will not lead to the emergence of a bipolar or multipolar world, but will lead to chaos.
“The struggle for the opportunity to become one of these centers will take place in chaos. And yes, such chaos and the ambitions of the contenders will certainly lead to new big wars, we will see for ourselves,” Portnikov concluded.
