Trump believes that the rhetoric of Biden and Harris incites people against him.
Former White House chief and US presidential candidate Donald Trump called the “rhetoric” of Joe Biden and Vice President and his opponent Kamala Harris the reason for the assassination attempt himself.
Trump said this in an interview with Fox News.
“He (the attacker) believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris and acted on it. Their rhetoric makes them shoot at me, although I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are destroying the country – both from the inside and from the outside,” the former US President said.
Trump recalled past comments by Biden and Harris, who called him a “threat to democracy.”
“It's the opposite. These are people who want to destroy our country. It's called the enemy within. They are the real threat. They do it through a combination of rhetoric and lawsuits that they are dragging me into. This is what dangerous fools listen to, like the shooter. (…) And the same with the first one (the shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump in July – Ed.),” the presidential candidate complained.
Recall that on September 15, a shooting occurred in Florida near the golf course where Trump was. According to CNN, the shooter planned to hit the presidential candidate while he was playing golf. The attacker was detained.
The suspect in the probable assassination attempt on Trump is 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Root. According to CNN, he expressed support for Ukraine. The Financial Times adds that the suspect allegedly traveled to Ukraine to get to the war.
The incident occurred almost exactly two months after after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, wounding the former US president in the ear.
