US President Donald Trump has said that billionaire Elon Musk is upset with him over his policies on electric vehicles.
The American leader said this in an interview with Fox News.
According to Trump, the reason for the misunderstanding was that the American president does not support the desire of the Tesla CEO for “everyone to drive electric cars.”
At the same time, the owner of the White House called Musk “a wonderful guy.”
“I know he's always going to succeed. He's a smart guy. He even campaigned with me… But then he got a little upset – and it was inappropriate,” is how Donald Trump described his recent conflict with the billionaire, who was one of his campaign's biggest financial backers, in a rather mild way.
Let us recall that the conflict began with Elon Musk publicly criticizing Trump's fiscal law, calling it a “disgusting abomination” that “will increase the deficit to $2.5 trillion.” In response, the US president called the businessman “crazy.”
The relationship between the former allies became even more strained after Musk accused Trump of being “ungrateful” on the social media site X and suggested that he would have lost the election without him. At the height of his anger, Musk suggested that the US president was involved in a pedophilia scandal and was featured in the so-called “Epstein files.”
Donald Trump responded by cutting subsidies for electric vehicles and promising to cancel government contracts with Musk's companies as a way to “save billions.”
The US president subsequently announced that he was ending his relationship with the billionaire. He also warned Musk of “serious consequences” if he financed Democratic candidates in the upcoming elections.
Elon Musk soon unexpectedly supported President Trump's stance on suppressing anti-immigrant protests in Los Angeles.
