As of Sunday morning, 59 people have been confirmed dead.
US President Donald Trump has declared a state of emergency due to deadly and destructive flooding in the state of Texas, where rescue efforts are continuing for a third day.
This is stated in his post on the social network Truth Social, made on Sunday, July 6.
“I just signed a Declaration of Emergency for Kerr County, Texas to ensure our brave first responders receive the resources they need immediately,” Trump wrote.
As of Sunday morning, 59 people have been confirmed dead from the flooding, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick told Fox News.
“Unfortunately, we expect these numbers to increase,” Patrick said.
More than 20 children are believed to be missing from a Christian girls' camp along the Guadalupe River.
“These families are experiencing an incredible tragedy, with many lives lost and many still missing. The Trump Administration continues to work closely with state and local leaders,” the president continued in his message.
The US president said that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had arrived at the scene of the disaster and was working with Governor Greg Abbott to organize the rescue.
“Our incredible U.S. Coast Guard, along with state first responders, saved over 850 lives. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!” Trump concluded.
Recall that on July 4, torrential rains caused deadly flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas. The natural disaster approached so quickly that it was impossible to predict it even with the help of radar.
