Former US President Donald Trump announced that his company Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is launching TRUTH Social. The statement of the politician was published on Twitter by his representative Liz Harrington.
“The mission of TMGT is to create a rival to the liberal media consortium and to fight back the Silicon Valley tech companies that have used their monopoly power to silence America's opposition voices,” it says. According to Trump, he decided to create a social network “to resist the tyranny of Big Technologies.”
The former head of state said that many members of the Taliban terrorist movement (banned in Russia) have Twitter accounts, while “your beloved American president has been silenced.” “This is unacceptable,” he said.
According to Trump, the beta version of the service will be available to “invited guests” in November, and the full launch of the social network is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
TMTG also announced that it has completed a merger with the Digital World Acquisition Group, which will allow it to become a public company, writes The Hill. According to MarketWatch, the Digital World Acquisition Group was founded on December 11, 2020 with the intention of acquiring or merging with another company.
Trump's accounts on major social networks, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, were blocked in January this year after his supporters attacked the Capitol building. Social media executives attributed this decision to the risk of “incitement to violence” and fears that Trump’s posts could trigger unrest on the day of the inauguration of his successor, Joe Biden.
The former president called the blocking of his accounts “a complete shame” for the United States and said that he was deprived of freedom of speech because “left-wing radical fools are afraid of the truth.” In October, Trump filed a lawsuit against Twitter to restore his profile and accused the service of groundless censorship during his presidency.
In March, Axios sources said Trump had started negotiations with several apps about a partnership to create his own social network. In the summer, he launched the Gettr platform as an alternative to existing services, and called it the goal of “protecting free speech”, as well as fighting “monopolies on social networks and creating a real market for ideas.” On the day of its launch, the new social network was attacked by hackers, including the accounts of former Trump press secretary Jason Miller and former US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.
