A new twist has emerged in the case accusing former US President Donald Trump of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, during which the Capitol was stormed. The prosecutors supporting the charges were suspected of having a romantic relationship and demanded that the indictment be quashed.

This was reported by The Hill.

Lawyer Mike Roman, one of the former president's co-defendants in the election interference case, said Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Fanny Willis has tapped her relationship partner Nathan Wade as the lead prosecutor.< /p>

He argues that the likely connection between Willis and special prosecutor Wade makes the indictment “fatally flawed” and has asked the judge to dismiss the charges and also remove the district attorney's office from further involvement in the case.

Georgia Judge Scott McAfee, who is prosecuting Donald Trump, ordered Willis to provide written explanations on the matter by February 2. The judge also scheduled a hearing on the charges against the prosecutor for February 15.

The publication noted that on the same day, Trump and his legal team are scheduled to appear in New York for a hearing on another criminal case – money laundering.

Recall that earlier a federal judge rejected the request of former US President Donald Trump to dismiss charges of election interference against him on the basis of “presidential immunity.”
