Donald Trump accused European countries of relying too heavily on Washington for defense spending.
Former US President Donald Trump came up with an excuse for his threats not to help Europe in case of war.
Politico reports this.
French European Commissioner Thierry Breton recently said that during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in 2020, Trump (then US President) promised not to help Europe in the event of war.
Speaking at a rally in New Hampshire this week, Trump accused European countries of relying too heavily on Washington for defense spending.
Trump confirmed that when he raised this topic, one of the European leaders asked him: “Does that mean that if we don’t pay, you won’t protect us?”, to which Trump said , that this is exactly what he was talking about.
“I said that’s exactly what it means… And the next day billions and billions of dollars poured into the country,” Trump added.
Recall that the 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump, after winning Iowa made a scandalous statement about the war in Ukraine. He says that if he comes to power in the United States, he will end the war “very quickly” because he “gets along great with Putin.”
