Trump blinded by ambition talks in Turkey

US President Donald Trump is a politician blinded by his own personal ambitions, not caring for the interests of the United States. Such a description was given to the American leader by the head of the Association of Eurasian Governments, Hasan Cengiz, in a conversation with Lenta.ru correspondent Khayal Muazzin.

“I have never seen a politician so blinded by ambition as Trump (…) His rejection of diplomacy and his attempts to rule the country via Twitter will go down in history,” Cengiz said.

According to him, part of the American population believed that Trump managed to win the 2016 elections thanks to Russia's help, and therefore he was forced to follow the lead of those who lobby for Israel's interests. Cengiz called the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel “a crazy decision” and once again stressed in this regard that Trump's goal in this decision was to maintain his power. For this, he allegedly relied on the protection of the “Jewish lobby”.

In March 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the transformation of the Constantinople Orthodox Cathedral of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is nothing more than Turkey's response to the US and Israeli policies in the Middle East.

On March 25, Trump signed a decree recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel. This decision was opposed by Syria, Russia, the European Union and China.

On December 6, 2017, the President of the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The decision also drew criticism from many European leaders.

Belonging to Syria since 1944, the Golan was captured by Israel during the 1967 Six Day War. The Israeli parliament in 1981 passed the Golan Heights Act, which unilaterally proclaimed the country's sovereignty over the territory. UN Security Council resolution 497 then recognized the annexation as invalid, Damascus continues to consider these territories its own.
