Tropical storm “Eloise” hit the northern regions of South Africa

Tropical storm “Eloise” hit the northern province of Limpopo in South Africa. This was reported by the eNCA TV channel.

In a number of districts of the region, heavy rainfalls have already caused floods. Many felled trees, damage to power grids and a number of infrastructure facilities have been reported.

In addition, the roads leading to the Kruger National Park were closed. Rescue teams were sent to help residents of the affected villages.

However, the South African authorities have lowered the regional level of anxiety, as the wind force at the epicenter of the storm “Eloise” continues to fall – it is about 40 meters per second. Showers were recorded not only in the north of South Africa. Since January 24, the capital of Mozambique Maputo has been raining heavily, which will last for two days. In addition, squally winds and downpours are reported in southeastern Zimbabwe.

Storm “Eloise” formed in the Indian Ocean on January 14th. Five days later, it hit the northern regions of Madagascar, bringing torrential rains. It is noted that floods were recorded in a number of places then.

Last Saturday, “Eloise” covered the Mozambican city of Beira, causing floods. It is clarified that the storm is moving, losing its strength, in the interior of Africa towards the eastern border of Botswana.

Earlier, Crimean residents were warned of an impending storm. Rescuers expect an increase in the southwest wind up to 20-25 m / s.
