Tribute to tradition: ancient cradles gain popularity in Kazakhstan again
In Kazakhstan, young parents are increasingly choosing old cradles for their children – besiki. Nomads still had such wooden cradles. What is their peculiarity, will tell the correspondent of “MIR 24” Asel Rusalieva.
Every detail is thought out in besik. The baby is put into it immediately after birth, so in shape it resembles the mother's womb. Everything is designed so that the baby is comfortable to swing and feed.
“The bend is not steep, harmonious, ideal for lulling a child,” says needlewoman Yrza Tursynzada.
For the first time, the most authoritative woman of the family put the child in the cradle, and performed a special ceremony besik toi.
Nur-Sultan resident Dariya Cherniyazova hesitated for a long time to put her son in besik. But now I'm happy. The boy is six months old and still sleeps in the cradle. It is impossible to fall out of it – the arms and legs fix the tapes, without unnecessary movements the child sleeps better.

“Children have colic. Basically, from 40 days to 3-4 months. At such moments, the child is pressed to calm him down. And here the effect is achieved due to the tied ribbons, ”explains Didara Cherniyazova.
Traditional besik can be found today. Recently, the demand for them has been growing.
Now parents have a lot of choice. Buy a modern crib or its old wooden counterpart. The prices don't differ much. Most often, young families choose besik.
“The price depends on the wood and material. Here, for example, it is royal velvet, ”the seller says.
The crib comes with mattresses, pillows and fancy bedspreads. You can choose a budget option from $ 60. The most expensive cradle will cost 140.
“Since 2015, the demand has been high. We deliver to other cities. We can sell at least six, maximum 10-15 besiks per week, ”says entrepreneur Radmira Kulshimanova.
You can also order an exclusive version. Besiki Yrzy Tursynzada as a work of art. She sews blankets and pillows by hand. Only from natural materials – linen, velvet, silk. Such a cradle costs from two thousand dollars.
“There is silver all around in this besik. It is a metal that disinfects. And not just like that, not for beauty it was done, but in order for the child to lie dry, so that there are no microbes, ”Yrza Tursynzada notes.
The Cherniyazovs are awaiting replenishment again. The future baby will inherit the besik of his older brother. It is another good tradition to inherit the cradle.
Over time, wooden cradles have been improved. Even smart besiki are on sale. They swing from the crying of the baby and measure the moisture of the diapers.
