Head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell called on EU countries to double military aid to Ukraine. At the same time, some countries are already declaring that they have exhausted their resources with which they could help.
However, against the background of the successful counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, most states agree on the need to support Ukraine. About it on air Channel 24Oleksandr Musiyenko, head of the Center for Military Legal Research, said.
Politicians are afraid of a strong Ukraine
At the same time, politicians with the opposite point of view are now in the minority, which is good, first of all, for Ukraine. They talk about “the need to come to an agreement.”
They are afraid of a certain strengthening of Ukraine as a powerful European state – this also needs to be understood. After all, the trends are heading towards this, – the analyst noted.
However, in his opinion, such politicians are now in the obvious minority. Moreover, despite a certain decrease in defense assistance to Ukraine, official data indicate that there is no significant curtailment of assistance to Ukraine.
“It has indeed decreased, but now the trend indicates that it is growing again and has every reason to increase “, – Alexander Musienko emphasized.
In particular, he cited the example of Spain, where local media reported that the Ukrainian military would be trained in Zaragoza at a military training ground.
Ukraine may receive tanks from Spain
In the context of the exercises in Spain, the specialist noted that Ukrainian soldiers there, in particular, will learn tank skills. He recalled that Spain's main battle tank is the Leopard 2E.
This is a fairly well modified tank. I understand that if the Ukrainian military learns to master these tanks, then perhaps the issue of transferring them to Ukraine in the future is being considered, the analyst suggested.
Summarizing, he also recalled the results of the Ramstein-5 meeting , where European countries have declared that they are ready to continue to support Ukraine.
Ukraine and Leopard-2:
- Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmihal applied for the provision of these German tanks to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. However, he refused.
- Subsequently, he explained his decision by the “division of labor” in NATO. Like, the members of the Alliance agreed among themselves who and what will supply Ukraine.
