Transgender to take care of health in Biden's administration

US President-elect Joe Biden will appoint male-born Rachel Levine, medic, as Assistant Secretary of Health. She will thus become the first transgender person appointed to a federal position with confirmation in the Senate, citing sources, reports the FOX channel.

“Dr. Rachel Levine will bring the stable leadership and expertise we need to guide fellow citizens through this pandemic – regardless of where they live, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability,” Biden commented on the appointment.

Prior to being offered a senior position, Levine headed the Pennsylvania health system as appointed by the Democrat governor and led the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in that state. In May, her name featured in controversial media coverage: she took her elderly mother from a nursing home shortly after publicly declaring that retirees in such institutions are not in danger.

After the November elections, it became known that the representative of the Democratic Party, Sarah McBride, became the first transgender person in US history to be elected to the Senate of any of the states. She will be a legislator in Delaware.
