Transgender people are once again eligible to serve in the US military. This was announced at a briefing on Wednesday, March 31, by the head of the Pentagon's press service, Rear Admiral John Kirby.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, he said, “firmly believes that any American who meets high standards of military service will only benefit the Armed Forces,” and “being inclusive” strengthens the United States’s security position.
John Kirby also noted that under the new rules, transgender people will serve in the army as representatives of their chosen gender, and the military leadership guarantees that during the service they will be provided with the necessary medical care, reports TASS.
Recall, as the website kp.ru wrote, after taking office as President of the United States, Joe Biden lifted the ban on the service of gender-reassigned men and women in the American Armed Forces, introduced by his predecessor Donald Trump.
By the way, recently the US Senate for the first time approved a transgender woman for the post of Assistant Minister of Health of the country.
