On Sunday, January 31, a trainer aircraft disappeared in Greece, on board of which, according to preliminary data, there was only a pilot. The aircraft disappeared from radar when it was near the town of Ioannina in the Eastern Zagori region in the north of the country, the Athens Macedonian News Agency reports.
The search involves the Greek Air Force, firefighters, police, climbers from the special disaster management squad and volunteers. The last time the pilot got in touch was Sunday afternoon, at that moment the plane was about five nautical miles from the Ioannina airfield.
It is noted that the operation is very complicated by bad weather: it is raining heavily in the search area, the sky is overcast. In addition, there is a thick fog.
Greek news portal Newsbomb reports that the missing plane was a two-seater and a foreigner was at the helm. The pilot's citizenship was not specified.
