Ten girls and a teacher at the Christian camp Camp Mystic died in Texas during a flash flood. The water level rose by 30 feet overnight.

Severe flooding that hit Kerr County, Texas, has left at least a dozen girls and one teacher at the Christian summer camp Camp Mystic dead. Several other children are missing.

The publication BILD writes about this.

The photo, which shows thirteen girls and two teachers, was taken shortly before the tragedy. Most of them have now been confirmed dead. The rest are still missing, and the chances of finding them alive are rapidly diminishing.

The children arrived at the camp on June 29. They were housed in a wooden building called the Bubble-Inn, located just 150 meters from the Guadalupe River. On the night from Friday to Saturday, at about four o'clock, the river overflowed its banks – the water level rose almost nine meters in a matter of hours. The flood caught the children by surprise while they were still sleeping.

Camp director Richard Eastland tried to reach the building by car to rescue the children. His body, along with three girls, was found in the flooded car. According to his son, the Bubble-Inn and Twin buildings were completely cut off by the floodwaters, making evacuation impossible.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the camp's emergency preparedness. According to preliminary estimates, the disaster developed too quickly to evacuate the children.

Recall that on July 4, 2025, heavy rains caused deadly flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas. As of July 6, at least 51 people have died.

Due to flooding, US President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in Texas.
