It is noted that the incident occurred after 14:00 local time on a stretch of beach between the two resorts. When members of two criminal gangs opened fire, vacationers fled to the hotel rooms.
Two likely drug dealers were fatally injured, there are no other victims or injuries as a result of the shooting.
US vacationer Jim Wildermuth said that he heard gunshots when he was by the pool at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun Resort. After that, he and other tourists ran to their rooms, where they remained at the direction of the hotel administration.
Social networks also report that many vacationers were hiding in the hotel lobby. Law enforcement officers are currently working on the scene, investigating the incident.

The shooting occurred almost two weeks after two tourists, including a 25-year-old American blogger Anjali Ryot of Indian origin, were killed during a shootout between drug dealers in the tourist center of the Mexican city of Tulum.
