In Bali, a tourist was killed at the moment when he called his family in the UK. He spoke to his ex-wife and stepdaughter via video link, Evening Standard reports. The suspect in the murder of 48-year-old Briton Matt Harper was his girlfriend Emmy Pakpakhan.
Harper moved to Bali in February 2020. The man got a job at the Karma luxury hotel chain, and he has been dating Pakpahan since last summer. The murder took place at Harper's house. What caused it is still unknown. Pakpahan herself initially tried to reassure the police that Harper had committed suicide. As evidence, she presented a video recording of a dying man. Law enforcement agencies are sure that the girl stabbed him to death. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier it became known that an American tourist was suspected of killing his wife for the sake of insurance payments while traveling to Africa. Lawrence Rudolph said that his wife died due to an accident and allegedly accidentally shot herself with a shotgun when she put the weapon in a case.
At first, they believed his version, but a few years later new details surfaced in the case and charges were brought against Rudolph – the police suggested that the American deliberately killed his wife for the sake of insurance payments in the amount of five million dollars. Now he is in custody.
