The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) considers the isolation of Covid-19 infected people to be the best way.
The forum of the international tourism industry is against compulsory vaccination for air travelers in the corona pandemic. The President of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara, emphasized on Monday at the “Reuters Next” digital summit that the ideal solution was to isolate those infected with Covid-19.
Previous outbreaks of serious infectious diseases such as Ebola, Sars and Mers have shown that travel was still possible without a vaccine because the infected could be isolated.
In the current pandemic situation, rapid tests are suitable for this purpose, which, for example, could be done at relatively low cost before boarding the aircraft, said Guevara. “However, we do not believe that vaccinations should be made a requirement,” she said.
Air travel – including transatlantic flights – is already possible without any problems, as the airlines have taken good precautions with a view to the pandemic. The German Foreign Office is currently warning against unnecessary tourist trips to the USA, since the country is particularly badly affected by Covid-19 and is classified as a risk area.
