Jake Sullivan
The US President's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan predicted difficult times for US-Russian relations. He spoke about this on the air of the MSNBC channel, quoted by RIA Novosti.
“We believe that difficult times are ahead in relations with Russia, because there are a number of issues on which our positions differ deeply, as well as a number of actions that we need to answer decisively,” he stressed.
The national security adviser said that in the future, interactions between Moscow and Washington will be fraught with serious challenges that will require America to defend its interests.
Sullivan added that in doing so, the United States believes it can work with Russia despite differences. In particular, countries can cooperate on key issues of the bilateral agenda, including nuclear ones.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced a deadlock in relations with the United States. Since the United States turned down an offer to hold a live conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Joe Biden, the opportunity to find a way out of this situation was missed.
On March 18, Putin, commenting on criticism from Biden, announced that he was ready to hold an open conversation live with the President of the United States. In particular, he planned to discuss strategic stability, the coronavirus pandemic and regional conflicts with his American counterpart. After that, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the American president had already spoken with a colleague and was too busy to talk again. Biden himself ignored the question of whether he agreed to a conversation with Putin.
