The authorities of Toronto, Ontario, will introduce a 28-day lockdown from November 23 in connection with a sharp deterioration in the situation with the spread of coronavirus. This was stated by the head of the region Doug Ford, reports TASS.

According to him, this is necessary to prevent the worst-case scenario. Ford noted that such measures will also affect the Peel region located near Toronto.

The new restrictions imply the complete closure of sports and leisure centers, casinos, hairdressers, beauty salons. Catering establishments can only sell takeaway food. Groups of no more than ten people can gather on the street, the same number is limited to a one-time number of parishioners in religious institutions, at funerals and at weddings.

Schools, pharmacies and grocery stores will be open, and malls and other stores should move to deliver goods or allow them to be picked up by shoppers after online shopping from the street.

Residents of Toronto are advised not to go outside and not communicate with family and friends without special need. Violators of the quarantine provisions face a fine.

On November 18, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a record increase in the number of coronavirus infections in a week. Thus, the number of people infected worldwide increased by 3,977,223. The number of deaths was 59,699. Both rates increased significantly compared to the previous seven days, when 3,695,495 new cases were detected and 54,835 people died.
