Women working part-time want to increase, those who are overemployed want to cut back.
Too little or too much – around 3.6 million workers in Germany were dissatisfied with their respective working hours last year. 2.1 million people expressed the desire for longer jobs with correspondingly higher pay, as the Federal Statistical Office reported on Wednesday on the basis of the 2019 microcensus. On average, they wanted to increase their working week from 29.3 hours by 10.3 hours.
On the other hand, there were almost 1.5 million people who want to cut back on their jobs. Their number has increased by 48,000 compared to the previous year, while the number of so-called underemployed people has decreased slightly by 109,000. Overemployed people worked an average of 41.5 hours a week and wanted to cut by 10.7 hours.
Most part-time workers want to work more. Here women are more represented than men. On the other hand, people with full-time jobs rely on shorter working hours. How the economic slump in the corona crisis affects working time preferences has not yet been shown in the survey.
