Yoshiro Mori

The head of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics, Yoshiro Mori, will resign due to the widespread public outcry caused by his sexist statements. This is reported by the Kyodo agency, citing sources.

The scandal erupted after an 83-year-old politician who served as Japanese prime minister from 2000-2001 said that working meetings with the participation of large numbers of women were often delayed. According to him, women talk too much, and each considers it necessary to speak out. Mori then apologized for his remarks, but refused to resign.

However, the scandal has not died out. Mori's remarks were condemned by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and the International Olympic Committee, accusing him of sexism. According to the newspaper, he will announce his resignation on Friday, February 12, during an extraordinary meeting of the organizing committee. Sources of the publication said that Saburo Kawabuchi, the former head of the Japan Football Association, could be appointed to replace the disgraced politician.

The fact that the Summer Olympics 2020 has been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic became known on March 24. The director of the organizing committee of the Games, Haruyuki Takahashi, admitted the possibility of re-postponing the Olympic Games. At the same time, he stressed that it is impossible to completely cancel the Games, as this will deal a huge blow to the economy of Japan and the world.
