An athletics test event for the Summer Games with 420 participants took place in Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday. No spectators were allowed in the arena intended for the opening and closing ceremonies. During the emergency in Japan's capital, nine foreign athletes were among them, including US Olympic champion Justin Gatlin over 100 m. Eleven test events have been carried out since April, with the main focus on anti-corona measures.
In addition to the current athletics event, foreign athletes were also involved in volleyball competitions, the Diving World Cup and the marathon. Athletics World Federation President Sebastien Coe said in a press conference in the stadium that the concerns about Covid-19 would be recognized. However, the hygiene concepts developed by World Athletics during the Corona period have proven their worth. The games are scheduled for July 23rd to August 8th.
