Tokayev declared August 29 as the day of national mourning

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev declared August 29 as a day of national mourning.

“In connection with the tragic incident in the Bayzak district of the Zhambyl region, which caused the death of people, I declare August 29 as the day of national mourning,” Tokayev wrote on his Twitter.

He noted that “the killed servicemen and rescuers showed true heroism and dedication.”

“They will forever remain in the memory of the people,” the president added.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported that “the death toll in the explosion in the Zhambyl region has reached 12.”
