According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland, the EU should increase its efforts to provide military assistance to Ukraine, as well as to strengthen its own security.
Poland confirmed its allied commitments to support Ukraine, because Europe must increase its efforts for military help.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz during a media briefing in Berlin following a meeting with colleagues from Germany, Great Britain, Italy and France on November 25.
“At this meeting, we confirm our allied commitments that we must do everything possible today to support Ukraine,” Kosiniak Kamysz noted.
According to him, a video conference was organized during the meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in order to “know every day and every week what Ukraine needs now.”
He added that Europe should increase its defense efforts both to help Ukraine and, first of all, to strengthen its own security, and also announced a new meeting of defense ministers of the 5 countries at the beginning of 2025 in Poland, because this, according to the minister, is a “good place” for negotiations
“Poland is the largest hub of aid for Ukraine. We are also talking about the security of NATO's eastern flank and increasing EU spending on the development of the European defense industry,” Kosiniak-Kamisz said.
In 2024 alone, Poland will spend 4.2% of its GDP on defense, and next year this figure will grow to 4.7%.
Recall that the head of the Polish Mine Works Radoslaw Sikorski commented on the Russian army's strike on Ukraine with the Oreshnik missile: “When this thing appears in our airspace, we have the right to shoot it down.” He also spoke about the shooting down of targets over Ukraine by NATO countries.
