TikTok will be blocked in Italy from 9 February

by alex

The social network TikTok has agreed to the requirements of the Italian Office for the Protection of Personal Data (GPDP) and will block all users of the republic from February 9. To continue using the popular app, you'll need to re-enter your age. User accounts under 13 years old will be deleted.

Recall that the requirement to block minors on the social network was adopted after a series of tragedies that happened to children who tried to repeat the dangerous “tests” spread through TikTok. At the same time, the GPDP admits that the decision of the administration of the Internet service does not completely solve the problem, since there is still an opportunity for children under 13 to indicate a fake age.

According to representatives of the department, in the coming months, TikTok will take other measures to comply with the “teenage” qualification, in particular, assess the possibility of using artificial intelligence systems to check age. An information campaign will also be launched to raise awareness of parents and children about the dangers of the Internet. Earlier it was reported that at the request of the GPDP, similar measures can be applied to other social networks, in particular Facebook.

The Italian Administrative Committee for the Protection of Personal Data (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) was established in 1996. The main functions of the national regulator are to check compliance with the law of processing, transfer and storage of personal data, as well as to prevent their misuse.
