Short video service TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin have reached 3 billion installs on iOS and Android worldwide. It became the fifth non-gaming application to gain such popularity. More often, TikTok was installed only by applications from the American corporation Facebook – the social network Facebook itself, as well as WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
In six months, TikTok was installed almost 383 million times. Users spent $ 919.2 million on the app, according to analysts at Sensor Tower. In the first half of 2021, TikTok became the absolute leader in terms of the number of new downloads and the amount of user expenses.
A year earlier, the number of downloads was 38% more – 619 million, says Sensor Tower. This is due to the fact that TikTok was banned in India due to political differences with China. At the same time, user costs increased by 73% from $ 530.2 million.
Throughout the entire existence of TikTok, people have spent $ 2.5 billion on it.Since January 2014, only 16 non-game applications have raised more than $ 1 billion.And only five applications have received more than $ 2.5 billion: in addition to TikTok, the dating utility Tinder and video services Netflix reached the mark , YouTube and Tencent Video.
In March, ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, announced that it was going to conduct an initial public offering (IPO) on the US or Hong Kong stock exchanges. After that, the value of the Chinese company increased dramatically. It was valued at $ 250 billion – more expensive than Coca-Cola.
ByteDance canceled listing in April. Chinese representatives from cyberspace and securities regulators advised the company to postpone the placement of shares until ByteDance eliminates the possibility of a data breach.
