TikTok decided to compromise with the USA

by alex

The owners of the social network TikTok thought about making a compromise with the United States and thereby avoiding a complete sale of the company's American operations. Writes about this The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

The owner of the service, ByteDance, has been discussing options for a partial sale with the US administration for several months. According to sources, the issue of sale became especially relevant after the decision of the Chinese authorities to restrict the export of certain technologies to the United States. In addition, the issue is complicated by the approaching deadline that US President Donald Trump has set for the owners of TikTok: if they do not decide to sell operations in the near future, the social network will be banned in the United States.

According to sources in The Wall Street Journal, the sale is being considered along with other options: for example, restructuring. In addition, TikTok may be closing a deal with a US technology partner.

On August 23, it became known that ByteDance will sue the administration of the American president. This was a response to the measures of the American government: on August 6, US President Donald Trump signed two decrees banning any transactions with the owner of TikTok, ByteDance, and with the owner of the WeChat social network, Tencent. Both projects are developed by Chinese corporations. Washington believes that each of the applications “threatens national security, foreign policy and the US economy.”
