TikTok accused of illegal collection of data about children

by alex

TikTok is being sued. This time, the popular video service was accused of illegally collecting data about children. This was reported in The Guardian.

The initiator of the lawsuit was the former Commissioner for Children in England, Anne Longfield. She believes that TikTok does not comply with the laws of the UK and the European Union on the protection of personal data of children. So, in the lawsuit, the former commissioner notes that the company uses information about children without due consent and transparency. In her opinion, parents, as well as adolescents themselves, are not fully aware of the exploitation of their personal data. Moreover, she believes that it could harm about 3.5 million children.

We're not trying to say it's not fun. This service was needed by people during self-isolation, and it helped to survive this period. However, I believe that people should not pay for this with their personal data. Their personal information will be collected and shared with other companies for financial gain, even if they are unaware of it, ”said Anne Longfield.
