Former presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya turned to Joe Biden and congratulated him on his victory in the US presidential election. This was reported by her press service in the Telegram channel.
“It was a real race of ideas, programs and teams – unlike Belarus, where votes in elections were simply stolen, in the United States the vote of every voter is taken into account,” Tikhanovskaya wrote.
She noted that many Belarusians living in the USA cast their votes for Biden. She expressed confidence that under his leadership, the American people will prosper and relations between the United States and Belarus will improve.
Tikhanovskaya also added that Biden has repeatedly spoken out in support of Belarusians. “And I believe that the newly elected US president will soon meet with the honestly elected president of the new free Belarus,” she concluded.
Earlier, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the situation with the elections in the United States a disgrace and mockery of democracy.
On October 26, after Tikhanovskaya announced a general strike in Belarus, a new surge of protest activity began in the country. A number of large enterprises faced problems in production, students, pensioners and doctors took to the streets. President Alexander Lukashenko does not believe he won the August elections by deception. He called the events of the last days in the country a “terrorist war”.
On November 7, Democrat Joe Biden, who received 273 of the required 270 electoral votes and thus secured his victory, declared himself elected President of the United States. In turn, Donald Trump said that he hopes to regain his leading position in a number of states through the courts.
