Macron said that European democracy is under serious threat.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that the war in Ukraine directly threatens the security, unity and economy of France.
He said this in New Year's address.
“The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are not distant conflicts. They concern us directly and threaten our security, our unity and our economy,” the French leader said.
He noted that the events in the Middle East, the manipulation of elections in Moldova, Georgia and Romania, as well as the terrorist attacks in Europe indicate that European democracy is under serious threat.
“The terrorist attacks in Europe and in our neighborhood show that our security and the proper functioning of our democracies can never be taken for granted,” Macron stressed.
He is convinced that Europe should no longer rely on other countries to ensure its security and defense, and France must continue to invest in military modernization.
“Europe will have to speed up the pace of taking responsibility for its own defense, security and borders. We also need a European awakening, a scientific, intellectual, technological and industrial awakening,” the French president said.
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently held what he called a productive meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
