Threat to democracy: Canadian intelligence warns of the dangers of artificial intelligence

by alex

Canadian intelligence has warned about the threat of deepfakes to democracy.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has raised concerns about the campaigns on disinformation carried out on the Internet using deepfakes.

According to Canadian intelligence agencies, the “realism” of fake content, coupled with the “inability to recognize or detect” it, poses a potential threat to the citizens of the country.

“Deepfakes and “other advanced artificial intelligence technologies threaten democracy as some actors seek to capitalize on uncertainty or perpetuate 'facts' based on synthetic and/or falsified information,” the report said.

They predict that in the coming years, foreign hackers will weaponize artificial intelligence by creating deepfake videos and images of politicians and officials to discredit them.

“If a democratic society cannot distinguish fact from fiction, how will it survive? How will Canada function if there are different sets of unverified facts that different segments of the population believe in?,” ponder intelligence services.

The danger posed by artificial intelligence on the Internet:

Recall that in May, Microsoft President Brad Smith expressed concern about the widespread dissemination of realistic but false content and called for measures to be taken to recognize it.

It was previously reported that from 2024 the Kremlin against Ukraine will increase the number of cyber attacks with artificial intelligence.

And recently the Russians spread a deepfake with an alleged video message from Zaluzhny, which contains a call for an armed uprising.
