Both the statements of Russian officials and the propaganda from Russian bots in public groups are aimed specifically at Western countries.

The Kremlin is promoting in the information field of Western countries the thesis about the “threat of a nuclear war”, which is allegedly “higher than in the Caribbean crisis”.

The head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council Andrey Kovalenko explained the purpose of such an information campaign by Russian propagandists.

He noted that both the statements of Russian officials and the disinformation from Russian bots in publics are aimed specifically at Western countries that actively support Ukraine. At the same time, there is virtually no activity in the countries of the Global South, particularly in Asia.

“Russia wants to scare the West and change course in support of Ukraine,” Andrey Kovalenko noted.

According to him, the topic of “the threat of nuclear war” is not being scaled up in the countries of the Global South, since Russia understands that it depends on China and India.

Recall that earlier, political scientist and former MP Vadim Denisenko explained why Russian President Vladimir Putin's speech after the intercontinental ballistic missile strike on the Dnieper contained veiled nuclear threats.
