Thousands of jelly-like balls cover the beach near Los Angeles

by alex

Near the American city of Los Angeles, California, waves washed ashore thousands of jelly-like balls. The Evening Standard reported.

Locals found out that the balls turned out to be ctenophores of the genus Pleurobrachia, which in English are called sea gooseberries. These are small marine animals with cilia ridges that serve for locomotion. They are an important part of the European herring diet.
