This is just the beginning: Israel said the war with Hamas could continue for years – Financial Times

The most intense phase of Israel's offensive will begin in early 2024.

Israel plans to continue its war against the Hamas terrorist group for a year or more.

Informed sources told the Financial Times about this.

Israeli troops, who are in the north of the Gaza Strip, will gradually move south, destroying the leadership and infrastructure of Hamas. The military is currently tasked with eliminating three leading Hamas leaders – Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Marwan Issa.

“This will be a very long war. We are not even halfway to achieving our goals yet,” said a source familiar with Israel's plans.

The publication's sources said that the military operation depends on many factors, in particular, operational progress on the ground, international pressure and the ability to free the hostages.

After the end of the main phase of hostilities, a phase of “transition and stabilization” will begin, during which military activity will decrease. At the same time, some of the publication’s interlocutors said that there may not be a final point in the war.

Israel said that in Gaza City the army completed its tasks only 40%. In order to fully control northern Gaza, Israel will need another two weeks to a month. After completing the operation in the north, the army will begin to move south.

The publication's sources also report that the operation in the south of the Gaza Strip may begin earlier, since according to intelligence data, this is where most of the Hamas leadership is located.

In addition, in the south of the Gaza Strip there are many tunnels from Egypt, through which Hamas receives weapons and other contraband.

The “transition and stabilization” phase of the war involves preparing the enclave for a new post-war system without Hamas. At the same time, Jerusalem refuses to discuss with Washington and other partners the details of the post-war structure of Gaza.

Let us recall that it was previously reported that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky fears that the war in Israel could affect support for Ukraine.

In addition, we previously reported that Israel and Hamas agreed to extend the truce for another day .
