Pope Francis said that even thinking about using nuclear weapons would be “insane”.

The pontiff said this during a speech after the threats of Russian President Vladimir Putin to use weapons of mass destruction.

Reuters reports this.

The Pope discussed visit to Kazakhstan with people during an audience in St. Peter's Square. He commended the country for abandoning nuclear weapons after it gained independence in 1991.

“That was courageous. At a time when, in this tragic war, some think of nuclear weaponswhich is insane, this country initially said “no” to nuclear weapons,” Francis said.

He didn't mention Russia or Putin.

The Pope also spoke about a conversation with Cardinal Konrad Kraevsky, who came under fire while delivering humanitarian aid to Zaporozhye. The cardinal also visited the mass graves in Izyum.

“He (Kraevsky – ed.) told me about the pain of these people, wild actions, horrors, tortured bodies that they find. Let's unite with these people, so noble and tortured,” said the pontiff.

Recall that on September 21, Putin said that the “collective West” was allegedly fighting against Russia and threatened the world with the use of nuclear weapons.
