The explosion of a city gas pipeline could have been the cause of the incident.
In the Italian province of Agrigento on Saturday evening, December 11, a four-story building collapsed as a result of an explosion in Rawanusa. At least 12 people, including three children and a pregnant woman, are reported missing.
Sky TG24 reports.
It is noted that the cause of the incident, which occurred at about 20:30 local time, could be the explosion of the city gas pipeline. It is known that a fire broke out at the scene of the incident, engulfing at least three neighboring houses.
The emergency workers have already extinguished the flames and began searching under the rubble. The mayor of the city of Carmelo D & # 39; Angelo addressed the people with the following appeal: “If you have tankers and mechanical means, help us! This is a disaster.”
Rescuers note that although the fire that arose after the explosion has already been extinguished, “gas pockets from the city network interfere with safe access to the rubble.” Despite this, dozens of volunteers, firefighters and Red Cross volunteers are working at the scene.
The publication states that after the incident, the alarms of several houses and cars on the street turned on. Now it is full of smoke, debris and frightened people who cannot find their loved ones.
“Debris, pieces of frame, furniture, doors were thrown several meters from the explosion site. Electricity was turned off throughout the territory.” – told the journalists.
Meanwhile, Ansa added that screams are heard from under the rubble. Rescuers have already managed to pull out the surviving 80-year-old woman, she was hospitalized on a stretcher. “Operations are complicated by continuous gas leaks. Italgas technicians are working to protect the territory,” the report says.
The number of missing persons, according to journalists, now ranges from 9 to 11. The prosecutor's office in Agrigento has begun an investigation.
