In total, on Hong Kong Island, in the Kowloon area and in the so-called New Territories, islands in the north – the eastern part of the region, whose residents were most affected by the bad weather, received more than 200 mm of precipitation.
Because heavy rains flooded the streets, parked cars, and car drivers who were trying to get through at that time were forced to stop and save themselves on the roofs of their cars.
High water flooded the first floors of buildings and even flooded several metro stations. No casualties or injuries have been reported yet.
The Hong Kong government urged residents to stay home and stay away from low-lying areas and take care of their personal safety during adverse weather conditions.
As a reminder, In the capital of India – New Delhi – a record day for the amount of rainfall was recorded – this has not happened since 1982. The downpours caused floods and landslides that killed at least 22 people.
